Merovingian toponym for Zingem in which Sigginga is a derivative of a man’s name, Siggo, meaning as much as "the people of Siggo" (Siggo itself is derived from the Germanic word sigu, that at present can still be heard in the Dutch word "zege", meaning "victory"). Haim stands for "house, abode"; the word subsists in the German language (Heim) and in English (home). So, Sigginga haim actually signifies "the home of the people of Siggo".
